Publisher Team17 and studio Sonka have officially announced that their anticipated psychological survival horror Holstin will be released on Nintendo Switch in 2027. Along with this, the developers presented a fresh trailer during Gamescom and an atmospheric music video.
90s Polish Province and Incomprehensible Horror
The game's events transport players to the early 1990s in the isolated lakeside town of Jeziorne-Kolonia. The protagonist, Tomasz Wolański, travels there in search of his missing friend—an investigative journalist. The town turns out to be engulfed by an unknown calamity, and its few remaining residents are rapidly losing their sanity.
To survive among monsters and unravel the mysteries, players will have to scavenge for resources, conserve ammunition, and interact with the locals, adapting to their delusions.
Unique 2XD Rendering Technology
Holstin utilizes the developers' proprietary technology—2XD Rendering, which merges pixel art aesthetics with realistic dynamic lighting and flexible camera angles. The camera can be rotated across eight different angles, and the game's perspective adapts to the situation:
- Isometric view for area exploration;
- Over-the-shoulder view for intense shootouts;
- First-person view for driving vehicles;
- Classic 2D platformer and top-down view.
Authentic Atmosphere and Soundtrack
The creators meticulously recreated everyday life in post-Soviet Poland: from authentic wallpaper and old home appliances to period signage and interiors. The game will feature full voice acting in Polish and English, and the atmospheric soundtrack was composed by the Polish alt-rock band Heima. Their first single, "Skaza," is already available on streaming platforms.
