Publisher Super Rare Originals and developers from the Pixel Reign studio have announced that the fast-paced retro shooter with roguelite elements Moros Protocol will be released on the next-generation Switch 2 console on October 1, 2026.
Cosmic Horror and Classic Action
The game takes place aboard the abandoned military ship "Orpheus", lost in deep space and filled with terrifying creatures. The protagonist wakes up with amnesia — possessing only a survival instinct and a mysterious voice guiding them forward through blood-soaked corridors.
Moros Protocol combines fast-paced shootouts in the style of classic '90s and 2000s FPS games (such as DOOM and System Shock), the unpredictability of modern roguelites like The Binding of Isaac, and intense boss battles in the spirit of Souls-like games.
Key Features of the Game:
- Tactical FPS gameplay: flexible loadout customization, augmentations, a rich arsenal of weapons, and even the ability to kick enemies.
- Roguelite progression: each run is unique thanks to a blend of procedural generation and handcrafted locations.
- Stylish retro visuals: low-poly graphics with pixel textures and modern lighting effects.
- Co-op mode: the ability to complete the game together in a drop-in co-op format.
According to Pixel Reign, the concept for Moros Protocol originated back in 2010, with active development underway for the last five years. In early October, Switch 2 owners will be able to experience the project firsthand.
