Successful start for the crazy railway action game
This summer, studio Undercoders together with publisher Fireshine Games released the wild railway action game Denshattack! on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game offered an unusual concept: spectacular acrobatic stunts on trains, competitions, and rail kickflips across more than 60 diverse locations in Japan.
The project instantly won over players and critics: over 150,000 copies sold, 300,000 players overall, an 88 score on Metacritic, and 98% positive reviews on Steam. In a recent interview with Automaton-Media, game director David Jaumandreu shared his emotions regarding the warm reception and discussed their collaboration with Nintendo.
Tremendous support from Nintendo and release on Switch 2
According to Jaumandreu, the team is extremely happy, as developing the game took over three years of hard work by a small team. Nintendo played a significant role in popularizing the project:
- Early access to devkits: the studio received development tools for the Switch 2 in advance, which allowed them to optimize the game for a day-and-date release alongside other platforms;
- Indie World Showcase: featuring the game in an official showcase gave a massive boost to recognition;
- Festival booths: Nintendo showcased Denshattack! at its own booth at the BitSummit festival in Japan.
“Nintendo supported us incredibly. They liked the game and saw that it was a great fit for the Switch 2. Support from such a big company really makes a huge difference for indie teams,” the studio director concluded.
