Studio and publisher QUByte Interactive has announced the release date of its new project, Blades & Battles, for Nintendo Switch. The old-school medieval action game is set to launch on September 29, 2026.
A return to classic arcade beat 'em ups
The game is inspired by legendary arcade slashers of the late '80s and '90s, such as Golden Axe, Knights of the Round, Rastan Saga, and Magic Sword. The plot is based on Arthurian legends: players take on the role of a young Arthur or his loyal companion Lancelot before the founding of the Round Table. Together, they must fight their way through hordes of demonic monsters and undead led by the villainous Morgan le Fay.
Key features of Blades & Battles:
- Two legendary heroes: play as Arthur or Lancelot, each with unique combat styles.
- True local co-op: a full story campaign for two players on a single screen in the best traditions of retro arcades.
- Nostalgia Engine: the ability to choose your visual style — from stylized modern 3D to authentic 16-bit pixel art.
- 8 epic stages: battles ranging from the gates of Camelot and Sherwood Forest to frosty mountain peaks and the Valley of No Return.
- Combat system depth: easy-to-learn basic combos and unlocking devastating moves during battle.
