Publisher Clear River Games, in collaboration with developer City Connection and series creator Omiya Soft, has released the cult 1997 strategy game Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute digitally on Nintendo Switch. The release of the physical edition is expected in November this year.
A Combination of Board Game and Card Tactics
The original Culdcept for Sega Saturn captured the hearts of many fans thanks to its blend of board mechanics and card battles. The story unfolds in the Culdra Space universe, created by the powerful goddess Culdra. Players act as Cepters—adventurers with a 50-card deck who roll dice, move across the board, capture territories using monsters, and cast spell cards to turn the tide of battle.
Modern Improvements and English Localization
The re-release includes an official English translation (for the first time in the West) and a number of quality-of-life updates:
- Rewind Feature: the ability to return to a previous checkpoint in a castle or fort.
- Quick Saves and Loads: available at any point during the game, independent of main save files.
- Bonus Cards: an option to enable an increased number of reward cards after finishing a match.
- Reveal Hands: continuous display of both your and your opponent's cards on screen.
- Language Selection: quick switching between Japanese and English versions.
