The Story of Creating a New Gem from the Creators of Shovel Knight
The studio Yacht Club Games has released a full documentary film, "24 ‘Til Launch: The Making of Mina the Hollower", detailing the long and challenging process of creating their latest hit.
The story of Mina the Hollower dates back to 2018, when the game was merely a small side project under the working title Gothic. In 2020, it entered full production, and in 2022, the developers launched a successful Kickstarter campaign. After several delays and a massive expansion of content, the game was finally released in late spring 2026.
Behind the Scenes and Development Challenges
The documentary covers all aspects of production:
- Early prototypes and the search for a visual style in the spirit of Game Boy Color classics;
- Crowdfunding success and accountability to backers;
- Optimization challenges and porting the game to next-generation consoles;
