Square Enix, along with gaming media outlets, has shared information regarding the playtime of the new role-playing game FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE, which is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 22, 2026.
How long will the story take?
According to official estimates from the developers at Square Enix, completing exclusively the main storyline will take between 30 and 40 hours. At the same time, the Japanese magazine Famitsu, which recently awarded the game a solid 36/40 score, noted that the story campaign can be completed in 20–30 hours. Thus, most players will need anywhere from 20 to 40 hours, depending on their pace.
What about optional content?
For those planning to explore every corner of the world and complete all activities, the game will offer significantly more challenges. Famitsu projects that a full playthrough (completionist run) will take 60 to 70 hours.
Plenty of secrets and activities await you in the game:
- Encounters with the wandering swordmaster Gilgamesh;
- A Colosseum featuring dangerous monsters and valuable rewards;
- Chamber of Arms — a room with formidable foes sealed within legendary weapons;
- An epic showdown with the iconic Ultima Weapon.
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is the first game in the series presented in an HD-2D style, combining classic turn-based combat, familiar heroes, and the visual aesthetic of modern pixel graphics.
