FBI seeks nearly 3,000 stolen Pokémon cards worth around $1M

The FBI and California police are investigating the theft of nearly $1 million worth of collectible cards, including nearly 3,000 Pokémon cards.

Large-scale FedEx truck robbery in California

The FBI, along with the Santa Ana Police Department, have launched an investigation into a high-profile theft: 6,451 collectible cards graded by PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) experts were stolen from a FedEx truck. Among the stolen items are nearly 3,000 rare Pokémon cards, and the total value of the shipment exceeds $963,000.

The incident occurred on October 13 immediately after the truck picked up packages from PSA's main facility in California. The company promptly provided law enforcement with surveillance footage, shipping manifests, and detailed registries of each individual card.

What cards ended up in the hands of the perpetrators

PSA released a complete list of the stolen property with certification numbers and also deactivated these numbers in its database to prevent their sale on the secondary market:

  • Pokémon: 2,978 cards;
  • One Piece: 898 cards;
  • Basketball cards: 880 items;
  • Baseball cards: 640 items;
  • American football cards: 433 items.

Compensation for owners and warnings for buyers

PSA reported that it has already refunded grading service fees to all affected clients and has begun paying insurance reimbursements at the market value of the lost cards. Lists of the stolen items have been shared with auction houses and marketplaces. Anyone with any information regarding the incident or suspicious offers of sale is urged to immediately contact the FBI Los Angeles field office.
