Nintendo published a series of interviews with developers from FromSoftware dedicated to their new project The Duskbloods. The conversation revealed interesting details about the game's origin, its concept, and the transition to the next-generation console.
From an Idea for Switch 1 to a Full Release on Switch 2
As it became known, FromSoftware presented the first concepts of The Duskbloods to Nintendo back in 2021. Initially, a small team worked on the project, and the target platform was the original Nintendo Switch. However, Nintendo later shared its plans regarding Switch 2, which prompted the creators to change course.
FromSoftware head Hidetaka Miyazaki noted in a comment to Shacknews:
“Initially, the game was being developed for the first Switch (back in 2021), and we had plenty of thoughts like: \"it would be great to add this, but hardware limitations force us to reconsider the idea.\" However, Switch 2 came along, and as soon as we transitioned to the new platform, most of those problems simply vanished.”
Key Details About the Game and Its World
- PvPvE Genre: The Duskbloods focuses on online battles combining player-versus-player (PvP) combat with artificial intelligence-controlled opponents (PvE). At the same time, the studio emphasizes that this is an experiment, and FromSoftware will continue to create familiar story-driven single-player games.
- Bloodsworn: The main characters are beings with superhuman powers gained through magical blood. Although they resemble vampires, the creators aimed to present this concept in their own way, drawing on romantic motifs from blood legends.
- First Blood and the Twilight of Humanity: Characters compete for a relic called the “First Blood” during the decline of human civilization, traveling through various historical eras and locations—from Gothic and Victorian cities to the early modern period.
Thanks to the improved network capabilities and performance of Switch 2, the team was able to bring all their ideas to life without technical compromises.
