The cult 3D platformer Super Mario Galaxy, which originally released on the Nintendo Wii in 2007, may soon receive a full-fledged native port for PC. Community enthusiasts have announced the completion of the game's code decompilation, paving the way for running it on computers without the use of emulators.
What Does Code Decompilation Provide?
Decompilation is the process of reconstructing a game's source code from its binary files in C or C++. A similar approach previously enabled the creation of incredible PC ports of masterpieces such as Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Among the key advantages of a native Super Mario Galaxy PC port:
- Support for ultrawide monitors and high resolutions up to 4K and 8K;
- Unlocked frame rate (60+ FPS);
- Extensive possibilities for creating mods and custom levels;
- Flexible control customization for keyboard and mouse as well as modern gamepads.
Although the game was previously released on the Nintendo Switch hybrid console as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, the fan port will allow players to experience Mario's cosmic adventure with the technical capabilities of modern PC gaming.
