At a time when the gaming industry is increasingly moving toward an all-digital future, Nintendo assures that it has no intention of leaving collectors and cartridge enthusiasts without physical copies.
“We know how much fans love it”
Bill van Zyll, Vice President and General Manager of Nintendo in Latin America, stated in an interview with the YouTube channel Coelho no Japão that the company currently “has no plans to abandon physical media.”
This is an important confirmation against the backdrop of news from competitors and the general industry trend. Even though other platform holders are gradually scaling back disc releases, Nintendo continues to value cartridges:
- Physical releases remain an important part of the Nintendo Switch ecosystem and the next-generation Switch 2.
- The company understands the value of shelves filled with boxes and players' ownership of their copies.
- Collector's and standard cartridges enjoy consistently high demand among the community.
So fans of physical releases can rest easy — cartridges are here to stay.
