The physical edition of the action game Stellar Blade Complete Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 has officially confirmed what the industry was already talking about late last year: Nintendo is providing developers and publishers with smaller-capacity cartridges, specifically 32 GB.
Confirmation of Cartridge Format Rumors
In December 2025, publisher ININ accidentally let slip that Nintendo had introduced new, smaller cartridge formats for Switch 2, allowing production costs for physical copies to be optimized. Although that message was quickly deleted, undeniable proof has now emerged.
Studio SHIFT UP announced the release of Stellar Blade Complete Edition on Switch 2 for November 6, 2026. Promotional materials for the game's physical edition clearly state that the complete version and all expansions will be shipped on a 32 GB cartridge.
Why Is This Important for Players and Publishers?
The availability of smaller-capacity cartridges (such as 32 GB alongside standard 64 GB ones) offers several significant advantages:
- Cost reduction: publishers of indie games and mid-tier projects do not have to overpay for unnecessary space.
- More complete physical releases: lower costs motivate companies to release games entirely on cartridges without the need for additional file downloads from the internet.
