Developers from the SHIFT UP studio shared new technical details about the upcoming release of Stellar Blade: Complete Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Technical Director DongKi Lee discussed the focus on handheld mode and innovative game optimization methods.
Handheld experience as the top priority
According to the technical director, the most important task for the team was to convey all the beauty and dynamics of Stellar Blade specifically in a handheld format on the Switch 2 screen. Modern image upscaling technologies make it possible to preserve the sharpness of the finest environmental details and the model of the main protagonist, Eve.
Technical features and 60 fps performance
The studio implemented several interesting solutions to achieve stable performance:
- Software frame interpolation: Since the DLSS implementation on Switch 2 does not support hardware frame generation, the developers used a software solution to boost the frame rate from 30 to 60 fps.
- AMD FSR 3.1 optimization: The technology was completely reworked and optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2 architecture.
- Motion control support: The game utilizes the gyroscopes of the Joy-Con 2 controllers for additional activities and deeper immersion.
The release of Stellar Blade: Complete Edition on Switch 2 is expected this year, though the developers will announce the exact release date a bit later.
