Animators who contributed to hits like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Zootopia 2, and cinematic shorts for Overwatch have founded their own indie studio, Horse Position, and are working on their debut visual novel titled Tulpa the Unseen Lover.
What is the game about?
The plot centers on Nick, a 23-year-old talented mangaka living alone abroad and going through a difficult period in his life. To cope with his problems, he creates a tulpa in his imagination—a separate conscious entity in the form of a cute girl. Players will be able to choose outfits for her, give her a name, and make choices that determine the course of events and the ending of this unusual story.
The developers specifically emphasize that all cutscenes and illustrations are handcrafted in Blender without the use of generative artificial intelligence.
Will the novel come to Nintendo consoles?
The game is initially slated for release on PC (via Steam), but the creators have expressed strong interest in Nintendo platforms:
“We would be incredibly happy to release the game on Switch or Switch 2! However, we are a very, very small team, so we will focus on the Steam release first. We hope to expand the list of platforms over time.”
Key features of Tulpa the Unseen Lover:
- A captivating story with multiple branching endings.
- Up to three hours of gameplay.
- Two romance interests.
- A wardrobe of unlockable outfits for the tulpa.
- Dozens of high-quality, handcrafted animated scenes and illustrations.
