SEGA has presented an ambitious roadmap for the second year of support for the arcade racer Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds alongside the version 2.0.0 patch. The update brings significant gameplay changes, new modes, and a series of exciting crossovers.
New Duel Mode and Gadget Updates
The main feature of version 2.0.0 is the 1v1 format Duel Mode. Players will compete head-to-head using the new Duel Boost gauge, which fills over time and from using items. In this mode, players can see the opponent's inventory and gear, adding tactical depth. Duels are available both offline against bots in Rival Duel Match and online in casual races, Best-of-10 ranked series, or matches with friends.
The gadget system has also been improved: the Grand Master Plate has been introduced with an additional seventh "Super Slot" that significantly boosts the effect of the equipped gadget, along with 15 new modifiers added.
Free Characters and Festivals
Throughout the second year, players will receive new free racers:
- Bayonetta — unlocked by completing Rival Duel matches;
- McLaren Racing Car in signature Papaya and Anthracite colors;
- Aigis from Persona 3 along with her own vehicle, Palladion Dressy (in early 2027).
Season Pass Two and Grand Collaborations
The second season pass includes 6 themed DLC packs featuring iconic franchises:
- Godzilla Pack — the Godzilla Escape track and vehicles styled after Godzilla, Ghidorah, and Mothra;
- EVANGELION Pack — Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley, the Tokyo-III track, and EVA race cars;
- Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack — Hello Kitty and Kuromi;
- SEGALAND Pack — a track and vehicles inspired by classics such as OutRun and After Burner;
- Midgar Pack — based on the Final Fantasy VII Remake series;
- Reload Revival Royal Pack — a collaboration with the Persona franchise.
In addition, the base edition of the game has received a permanent price cut, making the game even more accessible to new players.
