Pre-order bonuses have fallen prey to scalpers
The release of the iconic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the next-generation Switch 2 console has attracted the attention of millions of players worldwide. However, along with the huge hype, scalpers traditionally entered the scene, trying to cash in on dedicated fans of the series.
Various retailers offered unique bonuses with physical editions of the game: from exclusive slip covers to collectible ocarina-shaped keychains. Scalpers quickly snatched up such bundles and are now mass listing them on secondary marketplaces, targeting those who did not manage to buy the coveted edition in time.
Prices on eBay reach hundreds of dollars
An overview of the eBay platform demonstrates an impressive markup:
- A bundle consisting of the game, an exclusive cover, and a keychain is valued at an astounding $530.
- Certain rare promotional materials and bonuses are also listed at prices several times higher than the cost of the game itself.
Although most of these listings currently have no bids, many lots are already attracting the attention of potential buyers. With the winter holidays approaching, the shortage of physical copies and bonuses will only grow, so there may be even more such speculative offers.
