New rumors have surfaced online regarding a possible future expansion of Nintendo's console lineup. According to insider reports, Samsung is working on an updated chip manufacturing process node that could serve as the foundation for a hypothetical Nintendo Switch 2 Lite.
New 8LPU+ Process Node from Samsung
As reported by Notebook Check citing the Nintendo Patents Watch account on Bluesky, Samsung is developing an improved process node called 8LPU+. The new technology could bring several important advantages for next-generation hardware:
- Reduced power consumption: chips on the new node will require less power during operation.
- More compact size: the ability to make the Nvidia processor for the Switch 2 smaller in dimensions.
- Reduced manufacturing costs: an optimized process will help lower the final price of the console.
- Better energy efficiency: this is critical for a handheld device without detachable controllers and with a smaller battery.
Although the Switch 2 is already on the market, the history of the original generation showed that the emergence of a Lite version is a completely logical step to capture an audience that prefers purely handheld gaming at a more affordable price.
