The recent Zelda Direct presentation showcased in detail the updated look of the remake of the iconic game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The new visual style of the characters and environment caught the attention of former Nintendo artist Takaya Imamura.
A Touch of Puppet Theater in the Design
In his social media post, Imamura noted that the new character models resemble puppets and dolls, for which series creator Shigeru Miyamoto has always had a special passion:
“Looking at these models, I feel... Mr. Miyamoto's love for puppet theater is clearly visible here again!”
Miyamoto's Influence on the Series
Having worked side by side with Miyamoto for decades, Imamura knows the legendary game designer's aesthetic preferences well. Nintendo has repeatedly used puppet styling across various projects and presentations. Even if Miyamoto played an indirect role in the remake's development, his vision for the original game undoubtedly continues to shape the series' modern artistic style.
