Nintendo Switch 2 Hacked for the First Time: Hacker Demonstrates Mods

The Nintendo Switch 2 console has been hacked for the first time thanks to a discovered exploit, allowing modifications to be run for Mario Kart World.

First Hack of the Next-Generation Console

Since its launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 has remained protected from third-party interference and hacker attacks. However, an enthusiast under the pseudonym pepsipu recently announced the first successful jailbreak of the new system on the social network X.

According to the author, thanks to the discovered exploit, he managed to run custom mods in the new game Mario Kart World. As proof, he demonstrated replacing standard racers with unusual third-party characters:

Such modifications of game files are impossible without gaining unauthorized access to arbitrary code execution on the console.

This is not a simple process: you will need the game SmileBasic (version 4.4.9) for Nintendo Switch, over 20 MB of free space for the save data of this application, system software version 23.0.1, and an installed Node.js environment (version 22 or newer) on a computer running macOS or Linux. In addition, the console must be on the same network as this computer. Since this method was found using OpenAI, it may cause some controversy. It is also worth noting that this "jailbreak" does not provide persistent access: if the console is turned off, users will have to perform the entire procedure again.
