Netflix shuts down creators of Oxenfree
Do you remember the wonderful development studio Night School Studio? The same team that created the incredibly atmospheric game Oxenfree and its 2023 sequel? Unfortunately, they no longer exist. The streaming giant Netflix has made the decision to shut down the studio.
In their statement, the company's representatives noted: "We see an opportunity to be more focused in our execution."
What else was affected?
This news came from the publication Game File, which confirmed that Netflix has shut down two of its game studios at once:
- Night School Studio — creators of the famous Oxenfree series, which gained great popularity among Nintendo Switch owners.
- Moonloot — a lesser-known studio founded in 2022. Although they did not have time to release a single project, according to rumors, the team was working on a game inspired by Animal Crossing.
This is sad news for the indie community, because Night School Studio was famous for its unique approach to narrative in games.
