Fans of Minecraft will receive the long-awaited update for the new Switch 2 console this October. However, the conditions for upgrading to the next-gen version turned out not to be pleasing for all players.
Who will get the update for free?
Microsoft confirmed that the Minecraft upgrade for Switch 2 will be completely free, but exclusively for owners of digital copies of the game from the Nintendo eShop. Players who purchased the game digitally on the original Switch will be able to upgrade automatically.
What awaits physical edition owners?
Unfortunately, thousands of cartridge owners have been left out of the new initiative:
- Owners of physical copies on cartridges are not eligible for a free upgrade.
- To enjoy the enhanced version for Switch 2, cartridge users will have to purchase the game again separately.
This decision has already sparked mixed reactions within the community, considering the huge number of physical copies sold worldwide.
