Long-Awaited "Correction of Mistakes" from Eiji Aonuma
The legendary Water Temple from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has remained one of the most controversial dungeons in video games for nearly three decades. Series producer Eiji Aonuma remembers well the difficulties players faced, associated with constantly swapping the Iron Boots through the menu and the confusing level layout.
In a recent interview from the Ask the Developer series, Aonuma admitted that he viewed this temple as a long-standing debt to the community, which he was finally able to address in the new remake for Nintendo Switch 2:
«I had overdue homework: I wanted to do something about the Water Temple that I created 28 years ago», the producer shared.
What Improvements Await Players?
Although the first steps to improve convenience were made back in the 3DS re-release, the Switch 2 version will offer additional gameplay optimizations:
- Improved navigation and clearer orientation regarding the water level in rooms;
- Quick access to equipment without unnecessary menu switching;
- Rebalanced elements for a smoother pace of exploring the location.
The updated Water Temple promises to retain its original puzzle depth while getting rid of the annoying factors of the past.
