Publisher KOEI TECMO America and developer studio Gust have shared fresh details regarding the next entry in the popular alchemy JRPG series — Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories. The game is scheduled for release on Switch 2 on February 25, 2027.
Weight Change Mechanics and Fan Voting
One of the most interesting features chosen by the fans themselves through a vote will be the changes to the body shape of the main protagonist, Karia. Players will have full control over this mechanic:
- The feature can be toggled on or off in the settings at any time.
- When the feature is enabled, Karia's figure changes depending on the amount of food consumed.
- When the option is disabled, the character's appearance remains unchanged, no matter how much she eats.
- Players can also "lock" their favorite body shape for Karia so that subsequent food does not affect it.
In addition, the developers will add fan-voted costume options, including Dark Girly, Gothic Lolita, and a Visual Kei-inspired style, as well as a special short story.
Combat Styles, Giant Enemies, and Synthesis
Traveling through the underground world of Aladiss, Karia will be able to unlock over eight diverse combat styles (for example, the fiery Ignis or icy Mermaid), which change not only her appearance, but also her skills and methods of traversing the world — from smashing obstacles to walking on water.
Location exploration will be complemented by interactive actions with elemental objects to solve puzzles and gather ingredients. In battles against colossal enemies, players will have to coordinate actions between the frontline and the support group, while the updated alchemy system will offer even more freedom for crafting unique items using magical puzzles.
