Monster Hunter World Port to Switch 2 Unlikely Due to Engine Specifics

The producer of the Monster Hunter series explained why the iconic Monster Hunter World is unlikely to get a port to the Switch 2 due to technical specifics of its engine.

Why Monster Hunter World Is Unlikely to Appear on Switch 2

Capcom remains one of the most active partners for the next-generation Switch 2 console, actively bringing both new projects and its past hits. However, one of the studio's most successful games—Monster Hunter World—will most likely bypass the Nintendo console.

In a recent interview, franchise producer Ryozo Tsujimoto explained the reasons why porting this game to the new platform is an extremely difficult task. The problem lies not in the hardware power of the Switch 2, but in the game engine:

  • Monster Hunter World was created on the outdated proprietary MT Framework engine.
  • Starting with Monster Hunter Rise, the studio completely switched to the modern RE Engine.
  • Porting World to the new platform would require practically remaking the entire game from scratch.

Thus, the team's resources are focused on supporting modern projects on the RE Engine, so series fans on Switch 2 should count on new releases rather than a port of World.
