The modern entertainment industry is experiencing a real boom in video game adaptations: movie theaters and streaming services are regularly populated with large-scale films and series based on well-known franchises. The Final Fantasy universe has so far remained on the sidelines of this new wave, although in the past the series has already received feature films such as The Spirits Within and Advent Children.
Should We Expect TV Series and New Spin-Offs?
In a recent interview with IGN, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase noted that the company is completely open to new formats and would be glad to see more projects set in the world of the iconic RPG saga.
“Given that the Final Fantasy VII remake we created explored this world much more deeply than the original version, I think it would be great in the future to see new games or TV series inspired by the story of Final Fantasy. And I see no reason why this couldn't become a reality,” Kitase commented.
A Look at Legacy and New Remakes
The producer also emphasized that while Square Enix's priority remains creating completely new titles, the team is happy to return to the classics when they have a special passion for them:
- The original creators strive to introduce a new audience to classic stories in a modern format;
- The company is ready to invest in large-scale remakes if there is a strong creative vision from the team;
- Expanding the universe beyond exclusively game releases is entirely possible in the future.
Currently, there are no specific announcements regarding TV adaptations, but the interest of the series' key creators gives fans hope for the emergence of new media projects based on their favorite universe.
