The updated version of the iconic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is already available on Switch 2. The project combined classic locations, puzzles, and storyline with modern graphics, a re-recorded soundtrack, and improved controls. However, observant players noticed the disappearance of some familiar Easter eggs.
Why did the Mario portraits and Skyward Sword hints disappear?
In the Nintendo 64 original, portraits of Mario and Yoshi could be seen in the courtyard windows of Zelda's Castle, and the 3DS version featured posters of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. These details are no longer present in the Switch 2 edition.
Series producer Eiji Aonuma explained this decision by the desire to maintain the player's full immersion in the universe of Hyrule:
- Atmosphere and immersion: the developers did not want to distract the player with extraneous elements that raise questions like "Why is Yoshi here?".
- Focus on the game: the team decided to focus on creating the best version of Ocarina of Time without overloading it with references to other installments or Zelda timelines.
According to Aonuma, such Easter eggs were treated more casually in the past, but the modern vision requires integrity and a deeper perception of the world.
