British publisher Kwalee and independent studio The Wild Gentlemen are preparing an unusual project for release on the upcoming Switch 2 — RetroSpace. It is an exciting disco-punk space horror with immersive sim elements, where an ordinary janitor becomes humanity's last hope on the Aurora 5 space station swallowed by a black hole.
Disco fever in space with a touch of System Shock
The developers have released a new Accolades Trailer showcasing the psychedelic atmosphere of 70s retro-futurism, bizarre monsters, and signature dark humor. Players will have to survive among mutants, time jumps, and deadly security systems.
Key features of RetroSpace:
- Playstyle freedom: the option to complete the game stealthily or engage in open combat using experimental weapons.
- Immersive Sim elements: utilizing shadows and light, hacking turrets, laying traps for enemies, and discovering alternate paths.
- Mutation system (Mutamods™): body modification with unusual superpowers, which simultaneously brings funny or dangerous side effects.
- Cloning and respawning: each death creates a new clone with potential degenerative changes, requiring players to locate their predecessor's body to retrieve their gear.
- Metroidvania design: the Aurora 5 station features an open structure with numerous secrets, shortcuts, and a safe central hub.
The release of RetroSpace on the next-generation Switch 2 console is expected in the near future.
