Ahead of the release of the updated version of the iconic game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the next-generation Switch 2 console, Nintendo published a new installment of the "Ask the Developer" interview series. In it, the developers revealed incredible details about the remake's creation process and discussed the level of attention paid to every detail.
Real Weaving for Authenticity
Game producer Hidemaro Fujibayashi shared how thoroughly the team approached the creation of Link's iconic green tunic. According to him, the developers did not want the clothing to look too perfect or woven on modern looms, as story-wise it was created by the Kokiri forest children.
“If the fabric looked too neat, as if it were woven on a modern loom, it wouldn’t look like something made by children living in a forest. It wouldn't feel authentic. So we started with the question: what kind of fabric could these children actually weave and wear? We studied historical material samples in museums and even experimented with creating our own fabric from threads to better understand how it should look and feel,” Fujibayashi said.
Next-Generation Detail
The power of the new Switch 2 console finally allowed the team to convey the texture and microfibers of materials with unprecedented accuracy. The developers emphasize that behind every item in the remake lies a carefully thought-out backstory of its origin in the world of Hyrule.
