Urgent removal from eShop
If you previously managed to purchase and download SmileBASIC 4, you are now the owner of a rare digital project. Nintendo has begun urgently removing the app from the Nintendo eShop digital store due to a discovered vulnerability that allows jailbreaking the new Switch 2 console.
What does the exploit allow?
Enthusiasts discovered that SmileBASIC 4 can serve as an entry point for hacking the next-generation console. Among the possibilities opened up by this vulnerability:
- Running basic homebrew software;
- Creating backups of game saves;
- Installing custom modifications (in particular, adding custom characters to new games, such as Mario Kart World).
Although the current exploit does not grant full control over the Switch 2 system and has a number of technical limitations, Nintendo decided to act proactively. Naturally, the hacker community will now actively investigate the console's architecture further while avoiding firmware updates, so for the Japanese giant, this is just the beginning of the battle for platform security.
