Studio Pixel, Inc. has announced the return of its classic pixel scrolling shooter Horgihugh. The updated version of the game will be released on Nintendo Switch on October 22, 2026, to celebrate the developer's 10th anniversary.
What's new in the updated edition?
The original release of the game took place in 2018, followed later by the expanded version Horgihugh and Friends on Switch. Now the project returns under the concise title Horgihugh, offering a number of significant improvements:
- Updated graphics: artist Fuzuki Ishida joined the pixel art creation, noticeably improving the quality of backgrounds and level detailing. The main visuals were once again created by artist KOU.
- Reworked soundtrack: sound direction was led by TECHNOuchi, with music composed by trumpeter and composer Saki Hayashi.
- Greater accessibility: a mistake recovery mechanic and "Burst Shots" to empower attacks have been added, making the game more comfortable for newcomers.
- Co-op: support for two-player local cooperative play has been implemented.
- New boss algorithms and scoring: bosses received fresh behavioral patterns, alongside the addition of bonuses for balloon chains and fast enemy takedowns (time bonuses).
The updated retro shooter will offer both an engaging storyline and deep opportunities for fans of Score Attack modes.
