The Rubik's Cube as the Main Challenge for the Legend
Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the most prominent figures in the video game industry. His approach to game design has always been distinguished by out-of-the-box thinking. As revealed thanks to an archival 1996 interview with developer Kenji Eno, the maestro's competition was not at all projects from other studios.
Miyamoto, who is an industrial designer by education, named the world-famous mechanical puzzle of the 1970s as his main rival:
«Since I am an industrial designer by education, I consider the Rubik's Cube to be my eternal rival. A certain type of product is very important to me. These are not just things created by industry veterans exclusively for hardcore players, but what makes people exclaim: "Can computer games really do something like this?!" Creating products that surprise people who are far from gaming is our main challenge.»
The Philosophy of Accessibility and Innovation
It was this very concept that later formed the basis of many of Miyamoto's successful creations—designing entertainment that captivates both experienced gamers and those who have never held a controller before.
