Publisher Justdan International has officially announced the new role-playing game Tianji: Shadow of the Ancients, scheduled for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The game will support English, Japanese, and Chinese languages.
Historical Tang Dynasty Setting and Mystical Plot
Tianji: Shadow of the Ancients is a turn-based RPG set during the Tang dynasty era. Players will take on the role of the protagonist Shangguan Shuo, who has lost his memory. Waking up with a mysterious mask and a Tianji secret guard token, he sets out on a perilous journey across the lands of Bashu and underground ruins to recover his past and stop a dark conspiracy by the Xuanxin order.
Dynamic Turn-Based Combat and World Exploration
The developers offer a fresh take on the turn-based genre, blending classic strategy with a high-speed combo system:
- Combo mechanics: chain attacks, counterattacks after blocks, finishers, and no-damage run bonuses.
- Visible enemies: no random encounters and the ability to instantly defeat weaker opponents on the map.
- Exploration with verticality: swimming, climbing, spatial puzzles, as well as a day-and-night cycle that reveals new secrets in cities.
- Deep companion progression: each companion possesses unique crafting skills—from cooking to equipment upgrades.
Visually, the game stands out with hand-crafted 2D graphics in the style of traditional Eastern ink wash painting, featuring meticulously recreated architecture and costumes of the era.
