R-Type DX to Get Game Boy Color Re-release and Soundtrack on Vinyl and CD

Legendary Space Shoot 'Em Up Returns to Game Boy Color

Limited Run Games and Retro-Bit have joined forces to bring back the classic action game R-Type DX. The cult game for the Game Boy Color handheld system will receive a collector's physical cartridge re-release, along with an official soundtrack on CD and vinyl. Pre-orders open on September 15, 2026.

Collector's Cartridge Edition ($45)

The physical release of R-Type DX offers five games on a single medium: the original black-and-white and enhanced color versions of R-Type I and R-Type II, as well as the combined R-Type DX mode, which merges both installments into one continuous campaign. The set includes:

• A special translucent Cosmic Cartridge for Game Boy and Game Boy Color;
• A numbered premium-class hard box;
• A full-color illustrated manual.

Music Releases on Vinyl and CD

For retro music fans, standalone soundtrack editions have been prepared featuring artwork by anime artist Paul "OTAKING" Johnson and an exclusive interview with producer Nobuhiro Yoshikawa:

• Compact Disc ($20): includes 19 tracks from the R-TYPE DX: Music Encore Soundtrack and 14 tracks from the original BGM soundtrack;
• Vinyl Record ($30): exclusive cosmic-colored vinyl (Side A — Music Encore, Side B — original BGM).
