Poké Emo: Pokémon music reimagined in the style of 2000s emo and alt-rock

GameChops presented the Poké Emo album, which transforms Pokémon music into 2000s emo and alternative rock. The collection features 17 tracks that are already available on streaming platforms.

Get out your black t-shirts and Vans sneakers! The GameChops label is excited to present Poké Emo — a new album by multi-instrumentalist and sound designer Tune In With Chewie. This collection reimagines classic music from Pokémon games through the unique sound of early 2000s emo and alternative rock. All 17 tracks of the album are already available on popular streaming platforms.

"Pokémon is a series I've wanted to create an album for a long time, but I just never got around to it," comments Tune In With Chewie. "After the success of my previous release, Zelda’s Midwest Emo Mixtape, I realized I wanted to do Pokémon in exactly this style. I grew up on Midwest emo, listening to Mineral, American Football, Sunny Day Real Estate, as well as 2000s bands like My Chemical Romance, Jimmy Eat World, and Thursday."

The album is built around soulful guitar parts recorded using alternate tuning. The musician changed the harmony of many arrangements to create the desired sound. The release is filled with hidden references for fans of the genre: the intro to "Pokémon Theme" borrows chords from Sunny Day Real Estate, the trumpet in "Jubilife Village" is a direct nod to American Football, and a poster of the band Mineral can be found on the album cover.
