Pokémon Bank Service on Nintendo 3DS to Permanently Shut Down in February 2027

The Pokémon Company has announced the closure of the Pokémon Bank service on Nintendo 3DS in February 2027. Players are advised to transfer their monsters to Pokémon Home.

If you previously transferred your pocket monsters to Pokémon Bank to preserve them for the future, it is time to arrange their relocation. The Pokémon Company has officially announced the end of support for the cloud storage service on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems in February 2027—more than ten years after its release.

Closure Date and What You Need to Know

According to the official announcement, the Pokémon Bank service will permanently shut down on February 25, 2027. After this date, access to old collections on the 3DS will be lost forever.

  • The service was launched in 2013 in Japan and in 2014 worldwide as a hub for storing and transferring monsters between DS and 3DS era games.
  • Following the closure of the Nintendo 3DS eShop digital store in 2023, the application became free for all users who had previously downloaded it.
  • Players are strongly advised to transfer their Pokémon to the modern Pokémon Home service on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

How to Prepare for the Transfer

Please note: transferring from Bank to Home is a one-way process—it will be impossible to return pocket monsters back to the Nintendo 3DS. To ease the transition for active collectors, the Pokémon Home storage limit has been expanded to 9,000 Pokémon for Premium Plan subscribers.

If you have unique favorites from classic games, do not leave the transfer to the last minute, as the process may require setting up multiple consoles and the relevant software.
