Physical Edition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on Switch 2 Is Broken

Buyers of the physical edition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on Switch 2 are reporting an error: the key card does not allow downloading the game from the eShop.

Troubled Holiday Release

The original game Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was released on the first version of the Switch back in September 2025, and recently an expanded edition — Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer - Holiday Play Edition — launched on Switch 2. It includes the base game, the King Moonracer’s Kingdom of Misfits DLC, as well as improved graphics and frame rates. However, players are currently unable to enjoy the title.

Key Card Refuses to Download Data

Reddit user AL_KATRAZZ purchased the boxed version of the new Switch 2 release, which uses the Game-Key Card format (a key card for downloading content from the eShop). After inserting the card into the console, the player ran into insurmountable issues:

  • The Switch 2 console displays error code 2016-0070, blocking the game from launching;
  • In the eShop digital store, the Switch 2 version size is listed as only 82 MB, whereas the release for the original Switch is around 2 GB;
  • Due to incorrect data on the eShop servers, the full game client fails to download.

By all appearances, the issue is widespread and affects all owners of physical copies of the Holiday Play Edition. A comment from the game's publisher and a fix to restore download access are expected.
