Nintendo fixes glitch that caused Switch 2 players to receive false bans

Due to a technical glitch on Nintendo's servers, some Switch 2 owners were mistakenly banned from online services. The company is already lifting the restrictions.

Wave of False Bans

Nintendo has always been strict about enforcing online conduct rules on its consoles, and the Switch 2 is no exception. Any violations are usually punished with an immediate ban. However, this weekend, a wave of bans hit users who had violated no rules at all.

Many Switch 2 owners, upon trying to play online, discovered access restriction notifications. Perplexed players flooded support services and shared complaints on Reddit, trying to determine the reason for the unexpected punishment.

Nintendo Server-Side Glitch

Fortunately, the situation cleared up. As it turned out, the cause was a glitch on the company's servers that led the system to automatically and mistakenly flag certain users as rule violators.

Nintendo is currently actively fixing the issue and lifting the unfounded restrictions. If you have also encountered this problem, try the following steps:

  • Completely restart your Switch 2 console (for most players, this immediately helped restore access);
  • Check your network connection in the system settings;
  • If the restriction persists, contact official Nintendo Support.

The company is expected to fully restore service operations and provide an official comment in the near future.
