Changes in Minecoins Usage on Nintendo Consoles
Mojang Studios has announced upcoming changes to the in-game currency system, Minecoins, for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Starting October 27, 2026, the rules for using coins for purchases in the Minecraft Marketplace will change significantly.
How Will the New Balance Work?
Starting October 27, Minecoins purchased in Minecraft on Nintendo devices (Switch or Switch 2) will be available to spend exclusively on these systems. Accordingly, coins purchased on other platforms will no longer be usable to buy items on Nintendo consoles.
Key details of the update:
- Preservation of current savings: All Minecoins purchased before October 27, 2026, will be moved to a special "Legacy Wallet" and will remain cross-platform without expiration dates.
- Deduction order: During purchases, older coins from the Legacy Wallet will be spent first, followed by new funds from the separate Nintendo Wallet.
- Physical gift cards: New retail Minecoins cards may have compatibility limitations. Players are advised to pay attention to the list of supported platforms specified on the packaging before purchasing or redeeming a code.
