Return of the 2D Metroidvania Masters
Following yesterday's Nintendo Direct presentation, many fans had a logical question: who exactly is behind the creation of the show's main surprise — Metroid Ravenous? Despite the obvious visual similarity to the hit Metroid Dread, the name of the development team was not mentioned in either the trailer or official press releases.
However, the intrigue did not last long. Spanish studio MercurySteam virtually dispelled all doubts by sharing the game's announcement trailer on its social media with telltale ninja and heart emojis, as well as posting the video on LinkedIn.
What to Expect from the New Installment?
The new project continues the traditions of the successful Metroid Dread, but features a number of interesting differences:
- Classic side-scrolling action with large-scale camera perspective play;
- A more colorful visual style and a more dynamic pace compared to the gloomy Dread;
- Full optimization for the new hardware.
The release of Metroid Ravenous will take place exclusively on Switch 2 on January 28, 2027.
