The recent Level-5 Vision 2026 II presentation brought plenty of news about the company's upcoming projects, particularly a new installment in the Professor Layton series. However, fans' joy was overshadowed by the use of generative artificial intelligence in the broadcast materials, which sparked a wave of criticism across the gaming community.
Level-5 CEO's Position
Company head and CEO Akihiro Hino posted an official response on the social network X (Twitter). He apologized to viewers who might have been upset by the use of such technologies and explained the context:
- The use of AI was an experiment aimed at making the presentation more visually engaging.
- The technologies are mostly used for technical digitization and processing of materials, rather than generating original ideas.
- Key aspects of the games—scripts, character designs, settings, and the overall authorial style—are created entirely by hand by studio staff.
Hino noted that the studio will take the criticism into account when preparing future presentations, but did not announce a complete abandonment of AI tools in development.
