Digital Foundry Analyzed the Debut Trailer for Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2

Digital Foundry experts analyzed the first trailer for the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2: 60 fps and 1080p resolution are expected.

Experts at Digital Foundry have conducted an initial technical breakdown of the debut trailer for the highly anticipated remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the next-generation Switch 2 console, which was recently showcased by Eiji Aonuma at a Nintendo Direct.

Preliminary Technical Analysis

Although the game has not yet reached experts for hands-on testing, a detailed analysis of the official gameplay footage has highlighted several key technical aspects:

  • Target framerate: a stable 60 fps.
  • Graphics engine: the game does not use Unreal Engine 5 — Nintendo appears to be relying on proprietary in-house tech once again.
  • Upscaling: no signs of DLSS technology were spotted in the current footage.
  • Resolution: the gameplay itself is rendered at around 1080p in both docked and handheld modes, while UI elements and menus are displayed at 1440p.

A Massive Overhaul of a Classic

Beyond performance, the remake of the iconic 1998 adventure offers a radical graphical overhaul, fully voiced cutscenes, a live orchestral soundtrack, an updated camera system, and more fluid movement for Link.

Other new features include a dynamic day-night cycle across all locations, an expanded Threads of Time quest tracking system, and support for ocarina melody recognition via the microphone or new proprietary accessories.
