Publisher Red Art Games has announced the release of the Joe & Mac Retro Collection, which will arrive digitally on October 29, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). The collection includes three iconic Super Nintendo-era platformers from Data East: Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, Congo's Caper, and Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics.
16-Bit Era Classics Return
Each game in the collection features its own unique elements:
- Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja — a classic dynamic run-and-gun platformer spanning 12 levels with various prehistoric weapons.
- Congo's Caper — an adventure of a half-human, half-monkey across 35 levels as the hero rescues his beloved.
- Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics — a sequel with light RPG elements, the ability to court a mate, and even start your own cave family.
Modern Features and Censorship
The developers at Red Art Studios have added numerous improvements: save states, a rewind feature, screen aspect ratio settings, and authentic CRT filters. Additionally, a new Boss Rush Mode, a Virtual Unboxing gallery with original scans of boxes and cartridges, a music player, and local two-player co-op support have been introduced.
An important highlight of the collection is the inclusion of both Western and original uncensored Japanese versions—allowing players outside Japan to legally experience previously cut content for the first time.
Physical Editions
For collectors, physical editions will be released in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch and PS5: Standard, Deluxe, and the ultimate Rock Edition featuring a poster, pins, and an acrylic stand.
