An Iconic Melody in a New Symphonic Sound
A song that captured the hearts of millions of children in front of TV screens in the late 90s has received a new breath of life nearly three decades later. For the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, the Grammy-nominated string quartet Dallas String Quartet (DSQ) presented an instrumental sympho-rock version of the legendary “Pokémon Theme.”
The original song, performed by Jason Paige in 1998 for the English-language adaptation of the Pokémon anime, became a true anthem of a generation. The new arrangement from DSQ preserves the triumphant mood and dynamics of the original while adding cinematic scope through a masterful combination of violins, viola, cello, and double bass with rock elements.
A Bridge Between Generations of Fans
“The original Pokémon Theme helped shape an entire generation, and we wanted to honor that legacy by giving the track a fresh instrumental sound,” said DSQ founder Ion Zanca. — “This is our tribute to everyone who grew up with Pokémon, as well as the kids discovering this universe today. The fact that the franchise continues to bring families together 30 years later proves its incredible power.”
Dallas String Quartet, known for their “Bach meets Bon Jovi” style, has previously reimagined hits by artists such as Guns N’ Roses and Taylor Swift, and their albums regularly top the Billboard classical charts. The updated track “Pokémon Theme” is now available for streaming on all major streaming services.
