The original The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released in 2017 for Wii U and Switch, pushing Nintendo's hardware of the time to its limits. However, the fan community never ceases to amaze: an unknown enthusiast developer attempted to port the iconic adventure to the Nintendo 3DS handheld console.
A Journey to the Great Plateau in 3DS Format
This fan demake is a prototype that allows players to explore the game's starting location — the Great Plateau. Of course, the graphics and performance are adapted to the modest technical specifications of the 3DS, but the project is impressive for how close the author managed to get to the atmosphere and basic mechanics of the original.
Among the key features and status of the project:
- Basic movement, climbing, and exploration of the Great Plateau location have been recreated;
- Graphics are simplified according to the limitations of the 3DS hardware;
- The prototype has bugs and graphical glitches typical of an early development stage;
- Currently, the project appears to be abandoned by the original author.
It is not yet known whether another developer will take on finishing this ambitious port, but as a technical experiment, this demake has already caught the attention of fans of The Legend of Zelda franchise around the world.
