2K and Visual Concepts held a major showcase for NBA 2K27, revealing gameplay details, key mode updates, and new features of the upcoming basketball simulation releasing September 4 on Switch 2.
Revamped gameplay and new mechanics
The developers promise the most balanced gameplay in the series. Offensive players will receive a new Dynamic Layup Engine, expanded dribble customization, and updated fake moves. On defense, the shot-blocking system, passing lane interceptions, and collision physics have been reworked.
New features in MyCAREER, The City, and MyNBA
- MyCAREER Eras: for the first time in career mode, players will be able to begin their journey in one of five historical eras—from the Magic vs. Bird rivalry (1984) to the Steph Curry era (2016). The "Fire & Concrete" storyline features 11 chapters starring rapper Vince Staples, and also supports co-op playthroughs.
- Shared The City: The City will bring male and female MyPLAYER characters together on shared courts for the first time. A Crew HQ base will also appear for practices and ranked team tournaments.
- MyNBA Legacy: a new single-player RPG mode will allow players to manage a franchise and personally play as a specific athlete across the team's 100-year history.
MyTEAM, WNBA, and mobile app
In MyTEAM mode, the Player XP system for leveling up cards was updated, and the player exchange system (The Exchange) was expanded. Additionally, starting August 21, the NBA 2K HQ mobile app will become available, allowing users to create MyPLAYER characters, manage their team, and claim daily bonuses.
