Eternal Anima: Creators of New JRPG for Switch 2 Held a Discussion with Industry Legends

The creators of Eternal Anima and JRPG veterans, including Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu, shared details about the upcoming game for Switch 2.

Marvelous Europe has shared a new video series dedicated to Eternal Anima — a brand-new JRPG from acclaimed industry veterans, in development for the Nintendo Switch 2 and scheduled for a worldwide release on March 4, 2027.

Meeting of JRPG Genre Legends

The "Special Discussion" video series features English subtitles and offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at development through conversations between the game's lead creators and prominent figures in Japanese game development:

  • Episode 1: A discussion between Eternal Anima director Katsuhisa Higuchi and Mistwalker studio founder Hironobu Sakaguchi. They discussed the game's core concept of "heritage," attention to detail in classic role-playing games, building a time-travel plot without temporal paradoxes, and the psychometry mechanic in the Future Sight Battle combat system.
  • Episode 2: The game's music producer Hitoshi Sakimoto (Basiscape) met with legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu. The maestros shared their thoughts on musical expressiveness, challenges in JRPG soundtracks, and hopes for the new generation of composers.

Key Features of Eternal Anima

  • A dramatic cross-generational adventure: Travel across different continents and unite with ancestors and descendants across time, watching how past actions change the present.
  • Tactical Future Sight Battles: Anticipate enemy actions and choose a strategy to counterattack. Player commands can delay or completely cancel opponent turns.
  • Skill inheritance: Using the power of psychometry, the protagonist Wade can decipher the memories of artifacts, mastering the classes and abilities of past heroes.
