Artificial intelligence in the development of the new engine and Fortnite
Epic Games continues to actively integrate artificial intelligence technologies into its workflow. In a recent statement, studio representatives confirmed that generative AI is actively involved in writing code for both the next-generation Unreal Engine 6 engine and regular updates for the popular battle royale Fortnite.
A new approach to game development
Epic Games Executive Vice President of Engineering Marcus Wassmer clarified the details of how exactly the company uses new AI tools during the creation of technology and content. Among the key areas of application:
- Optimization and significant acceleration of writing software code;
- Development of functionality for the upcoming Unreal Engine 6;
- Preparation of new updates and mechanics for the Fortnite universe.
Since Fortnite remains one of the most popular games on Nintendo consoles, and the Unreal Engine serves as the foundation for countless projects, the introduction of new technologies could noticeably change the pace and quality of future release development.
