Longtime producer of The Legend of Zelda series Eiji Aonuma is preparing for another major milestone — the release of the remake of the iconic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the next-generation Switch 2 console. Despite his immense experience in Nintendo game development, the industry veteran admits to feeling very nervous.
A Veteran's Nervousness
In an interview with Japan Today, Aonuma spoke about his emotions ahead of the project's release:
“I am very nervous about the release of the Ocarina remake because I don't know exactly how it will be received. I can't stop thinking about it.”
A Fresh Perspective from a Young Team
A significant part of the anxiety is related to how the game will be received by a modern generation of players who never experienced the Nintendo 64 original. Interestingly, the remake's development team also included young creators for whom working on the project was their first encounter with the game. Aonuma emphasized that their involvement ensured the high quality of the updated version:
- Young specialists offered fresh ideas on adapting outdated game elements.
- The team focused on making the controls intuitive and enjoyable on the new system.
- They managed to preserve the spirit of the original while making the game accessible and comfortable for newcomers.
The release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo Switch 2 console will take place on November 5, 2026.
