Tetsuya Nomura: Kingdom Hearts IV Will Finally Implement a Long-Standing Idea

Tetsuya Nomura announced that Kingdom Hearts IV will feature an amazing new world, an idea the team was unable to implement in the third installment.

Long-Standing Plans Will Come to Life in Kingdom Hearts IV

The Disney D23 expo brought plenty of exciting news for fans of the Kingdom Hearts series. In addition to a 4-minute extended trailer and confirmation of a world based on the animated film "Coco," franchise director Tetsuya Nomura revealed intriguing details about the development of the upcoming sequel.

According to Nomura, the team will finally be able to implement a special concept they had been trying to bring to life since the development of Kingdom Hearts III:

«We had a concept back from Kingdom Hearts 3, we worked on that plan, but back then it was quite difficult to implement. Now the idea has evolved and will appear in Kingdom Hearts 4. Please look forward to this amazing world — at least from our perspective, it is truly impressive», the director noted.

Sora's New Adventures

In Kingdom Hearts IV, protagonist Sora wakes up in the mysterious metropolis of Quadratum. While he searches for a way to return home, his loyal friends Donald and Goofy head to the Underworld in search of clues.

The developers promise a dynamic combat system with new features:

  • Fast blending of physical attacks and magic.
  • Creating unique combos thanks to updated mechanics.
  • The ability to switch Keyblades right during combat to adapt to your own playstyle.
