Dead by Daylight Scandal: Players Mass Uninstalling the Game Over Developers' Actions

Dead by Daylight players are mass uninstalling the game due to a controversial gift from the developers to a contentious streamer.

A Gift That Outraged the Community

Fans of the asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight have found themselves at the center of a new conflict. A portion of the community expressed sharp dissatisfaction with the studio Behaviour Interactive and began mass uninstalling the game and demanding refunds.

The boycott was triggered by a Halloween stream by a popular VTuber under the alias TheBurntPeanut. During the live broadcast, an employee of the developer studio sent him absolutely all available paid DLCs for Dead by Daylight as a gift. When the streamer, aware of his controversial reputation, offered to return the gifts, the studio representative boldly replied: «We can take the heat! Keep them», which only added fuel to the fire.

Content Creators' Outrage

Players and veterans of the project were most offended by the contrast in the developers' attitude: dedicated content creators cannot gain access to the official Creator Program for months, while questionable figures instantly receive premium perks and public support from the game's creators.

Official Apology from Behaviour Interactive

Following a wave of protests, the Dead by Daylight team released an apology statement:

  • The decision to send the gift was an unauthorized personal initiative of a single employee.
  • The employee's comments do not reflect the studio's official stance and values.
  • The company will review its internal communication and moderation procedures.

The streamer himself rejected the accusations against him, but for a significant portion of players, the reputational damage has already been done.
